  • Get Certified Faster: Our EMT-Paramedic program is fast-paced—61 weeks—which gets you through to your certification in about half the time of a typical community college paramedic program.
  • Class Schedule Built Around Shift Work: Our class schedule works around a rotating shift schedule to better accommodate currently working EMTs or Advanced EMTs. We have class every fourth day (except Sundays) from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.
  • Better Outcomes: Over the past 5 years, 99% of our graduates passed the NREMT written and practical exams and went on to become credentialed as EMT-Paramedics. Additionally, 99% of our graduates successfully gained employment in the EMS field after credentialing. Our program had no graduates during the 2020 reporting year. Our 2018–19 course had a 76% retention rate. 79% of our 2018–19 graduates passed the NREMT on their first try and 94.7% passed within three attempts. 90% of our 2018–19 graduates are now working as paramedics for area EMS and fire departments.

What Students Learn

This course prepares students to take and pass the National Registry Paramedic psychomotor and cognitive exams. Students who successfully complete this course qualify to take these credentialing exams, and if they pass, apply for certification with the Texas Department of State Health Services. While there is no guarantee of employment, our past graduates have consistently found exciting career opportunities in the greater Houston area as a paramedics.

Students who successfully complete this course can receive 39 college credits towards an Associate’s degree in EMS Professions.

Selection Criteria

  • Students must be have successfully completed a Texas EMT-B course or be currently certified as an EMT-B or AEMT through the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Students must complete an application process, which includes a written exam component and an interview. Application cost is $50 and is non-refundable.
  • Clinical sites require a background check, drug screen, and proof of immunizations (list available on request). In general, if a student was able to successfully get their state EMT certification, they shouldn’t expect any problems with their background check.
  • If you’re concerned about your background check, you should contact the Texas Department of State Health Services to determine if you would be eligible to receive your EMT-Paramedic certification at the successful completion of this course.
  • This course has limited seats, and selection is competitive. We are looking for the “best of the best.”

What are the prerequisites?

Students must have successfully completed a Texas EMT-B course or be currently certified as an EMT-B or Advanced EMT in Texas.

What do I need to apply?

Application starts by registering here.

Once we receive your application, we will contact you to schedule testing. Entrance testing involves one test which measure your EMT Basic knowledge, reading, writing, and math abilities, and predicts your ability to succeed in the EMT course. Application cost is $50.

If you meet the testing threshold, you will be invited back for an interview. Interviews are scored with a rubric by the interviewers.

Successful applicants will be offered a spot in the class.

Can I obtain financial aid?

We do not participate in the FAFSA program and federal student loans are not available for this course.

Can I use GI benefits?

We are pursuing approval for GI Bill benefits. Please contact us for further information.

Costs

Course Cost is $8,000.

  • $5,000 tuition assistance is available to qualifying CCEMS employees.
  • Students who gain employment after being accepted into the CCEMS Paramedic Program are eligible to participate in Tuition Assistance opportunities offered to CCEMS employees.

Course Cost after Tuition Assistance is $3,000.

Payroll Deduction

  • Available for CCEMS employees.
  • $500 deposit.
  • Payroll deduction must be set up with HR prior to start of class.

Refund Policy

Students who withdraw from the class for any reason are eligible for refunds, which are calculated based on the student’s last day of attendance.

  • Only payments eligible for refund will be refunded.
  • Five calendar days prior to the first day of class: 100%
  • Within first 15 calendar days of class: 50%
  • During the 16th through 20th calendar days of class: 25%
  • After the 20th calendar day of class: No refund
  • If the student is dismissed or terminated from the course for failure to meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards or for gross misconduct: No refund.
  • If the student is unable to attend the NREMT psychomotor exam due to personal scheduling requirements or failure to complete course prerequisites, no fees will be returned and the student will be responsible for finding and paying for another psychomotor examination.
